Sunetra bends it like Beckham! Actress reveals she danced on Strictly with broken foot
Sunetra and Brendan lost out in a dance-off last night
The actress suffered a fractured metatarsal – the “Beckham break” – after her partner Brendan Cole trampled on her during training.
That was in week two of the competition, meaning the novice dancer soldiered on in agony for seven more weeks.
But the fairytale ended last night when Sunetra, who plays Dr Zoe Hanna in the BBC hospital drama Casualty, was eliminated after a dance-off with reality TV star Mark Wright and Karen Hauer.
Sunetra then admitted: “Brendan accidentally stood on my foot in practice but I was barefoot so cracked a bone.
“But it wasn’t until two days later that an X-ray showed there was a crack.
“They said there was nothing they could do – I was just told to rest.
I hadn’t exercised for 10 years prior to Strictly but in the end I guess I did bend it like Beckham
“But I was like, ‘I can’t rest because I’ve got to perform the waltz’.
“I just strapped it up and carried on.”
A tackle while playing for Manchester United broke the second metatarsal in David Beckham’s left foot, threatening his 2002 World Cup chances with England.
Liverpool fan Sunetra, 41, whose father is a doctor, joked: “I hadn’t exercised for 10 years prior to Strictly but in the end I guess I did bend it like Beckham.”
Viewers last night saw Sunetra and Brendan’s rumba to Girl From Ipanema leave the experts cold.
Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all opted to save Mark and Karen, who performed a salsa to Viva Las Vegas by Elvis Presley.
Sunetra, who has a nine-year-old boy Noah, said: “I was bowled over by the support I got from people.”
