Delay affecting 600-plus people
The decision by the Employee Retirement System of Texas to award a six-year contract to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will affect health insurance coverage for more than 600 locals, including employees of Southwest Texas Junior College and Texas Department of Transportation.
At least 170 of the locally affected individuals received health care services at Uvalde Medical and Surgical Associates in the last 12 months.
ERS manages health insurance plans for state employees, retirees and their dependents. Effective Sept. 1, 2017, ERS participants across the state previously covered under HealthSelect of Texas, administered by United Healthcare, shifted to Blue Essentials network.
